Default mode alterations in posttraumatic stress disorder related to early-life trauma: a developmental perspective.

چکیده
Recently, altered default mode network (DMN) connectivity in individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) has been related to prolonged childhood maltreatment. An emerging body of literature also describes the developmental differentiation of the DMN in healthy children. Critically, developmental changes in the DMN may parallel those observed in other associated domains, including self-referential processing, autobiographical memory, prospection and theory of mind, which are thought to rely on many of the same underlying processes and neural substrates implicated in the DMN. Moreover, deficient DMN connectivity in adults with childhood maltreatment–related PTSD appears similar to patterns of DMN connectivity observed in healthy children aged 7 to 9 years. Here, we propose that early-life trauma may interfere with the developmental trajectory of the DMN and its associated functions.

Alterations in default network connectivity in posttraumatic stress disorder related to early-life trauma.
BACKGROUND The "default network" consists of a number of brain regions that exhibit correlated low-frequency activity at rest and that have been suggested to be involved in the processing of self-relevant stimuli. Activity in many of these areas has also been shown to be altered in individuals with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). We hypothesized that the posterior cingulate cortex (PCC)/p...

متن کاملO5: Trauma and Stressor Related Disorders (Specially PTSD) in DSM-5
Trauma and stressor related disorders include disorders in which exposure to a traumatic or stressful event is listed explicitly as a diagnostic criterion. These include reactive attachment disorder, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), acute stress disorder, and adjustment disorders. Psychological distress following exposure to a traumatic or stressful event is quite variable. In some cases, ...
متن کاملDefault Mode Network Subsystems are Differentially Disrupted in Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.
BACKGROUND Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder characterized by debilitating re-experiencing, avoidance, and hyperarousal symptoms following trauma exposure. Recent evidence suggests that individuals with PTSD show disrupted functional connectivity in the default mode network, an intrinsic network that consists of a midline core, a medial temporal lobe (MTL) subsystem...
متن کاملThe role of childhood trauma, time perspective and experiential avoidance on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder: Applying of Structural Equation Modeling
Background & aim: Given the likelihood of recurrence of symptoms of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and the inadequacy of therapeutic approaches in the lasting recovery of symptoms of this disorder, the precise identification of the factors involved in initiating and maintaining PTSD is very important. Time perspectives can be considered as another conceptualization applied recently for st...
